Armacao de Pera – Long and Sandy Beaches

July 15th, 2009 by Travel Junkie

Originally this area was occupied by several small shacks, which were used by the inhabitants of nearby Pera to maintain the fishing fleet (the name ‘Armação’ translates as tuna fishing base), therefore much of the town of Armacao de Pera is comprised of holiday apartments, bars and restaurants. The eastern part of the town does however retain some old world charm and character, here you will find excellent fish restaurants and brightly painted boats.

Armação de Pêra is one of the oldest established tourist resorts in the Algarve along with Albufeira which is just down the coast. The long sandy beach stretches for miles along the coast.

During the peak season the Armacao de Pera is brimming with tourists due to the fact it is easy to obtain Cheap hotel bookings however outside the busiest three months the town is a wonderful peaceful holiday location.

Close to Armacao de Pera is the unspoilt village of Pera which is a typical traditional Moorish hamlet serving as a reminder of the Algarve of yesteryear.
